Busy busy in Santa's little workshop

Today was my day off, AHHH!

Had another lovely visit with Mum and we did some holiday scheming together. She's working on some ornaments that are so cute I can't stand it! I'm sure she'll blog about them eventually, so I won't go into to details, (she blogged!) all I can say is HOLY knitting CUTENESS!

Santa's busy workshop...

I continued to work on my niece and nephew's memory game sets. I already cut out the cotton backings a few months ago, so today I worked on cutting out the felt layers. Each square gets two pieces of felt for sturdiness. I'm making two sets of 26, so each needed 52 felts squares making a grand total of 104 squares cut out today! Phew! I need a cookie...(luckily I baked some yesterday, HA!)

I also sent out invitations to my Christmas Card Writing party today! Writing out Christmas cards is not one of my favorite traditions. I find it so solitary to sit there, write, stamp, address, get a hand cramp, look at my list and *SIGH* However, I feel socially obligated to send cards because people send them to me. So this year I thought I'd mix it up and invite a bunch of gal pals over to write our cards together. There will be sweets. There will be hot cocoa. There will be conversation and fun and I can shove cake in my face when I have a hand cramp. What is not to love?

Do you have any off the wall holiday gatherings? What do you think of the whole card party idea?

XOXO

Log Cabin

Conversation with my husband last night.

Me: I started sewing something new tonight.

Him: What did you make?

Me: I started a log cabin pillow for the living room.

Him: Are you trying to embrace the ugly couch? *laughs*

Me: Yes exactly, want to see?

Him Sure!

Me Will you go get it? I'm all cozy. (I was tucked into bed)

Him Okay, where is it?

Me In the built-in, on top of a pile of fabric.

He walks two rooms over, I hear...

Him: This doesn't look like a log cabin at all!?

He brings it in the room

WIP: Log Cabin

Him: If you had told me find something in your craft closet that looks like a log cabin, this is the last thing I would've picked up!

Me: hysterical fits of laughter

Me: Honey, quilting patterns are named after certain things, like 'flock of geese' or 'log cabin.' It doesn't mean that the patterns look exactly like those things!!! Fits of laughter

Him: Well that's just silly and ridiculous - if I built a log cabin that looked like this, it would fall over.

Me: Laughing so hard I'm crying...

WIP: First Attempt at Log Cabin Patchwork

Oh, everyday is a new crafty lesson for the hub, HAHAHA!

Purple Works in Progress

Apparently, the yarn shopping gods have decided that purple is my new favorite color.

When I was on vacation at Silver Bay, I started knitting a wild pair of Jaywalker socks (Rav) with Heart&Sole in Spring Stripe by Red Heart. I've just passed the gusset on my second sock, so these little babies are well on their way to being done.

Purple WIPs

Purple has also popped up in another one of my WIPs.

For the first time ever, my Stitch n' Bitch group is doing a knit-a-long. We are all making the Pseudo Shibori Scarf (Rav) from Boutique Knits by Laura Irwin.

I needed to pick out some new yarn for this project, so I visited my trusty source, Riverslea Farm . There I fell in love with this:

New fibery goodness...

Hand spun, hand dyed, Border-Leicester/Alpaca blend. Drooly-drooly-drool.

Here's a detail shot of the scarf in progress:

Pseudo Shibori Scarf WIP

I'm smitten with those little bits of blue and pink that peek out from the purple. The scarf is knit in a six-row repeat that shapes the garment on the bias. I am super excited to rock this with my green/grey polka dotted coat in the winter!

Are you working on anything fun, dear readers?
