Crafty Inspiration Has Returned

I started working on this hat last night at my mom's SnB. I think it's going to be a Christmas present for my sister-in-law, Cathy. I'm kinda just making it up as I go along. The yarn is this nice wheaty kinda color, and I wanted a big band at the bottom to look like a woven basket. I'm going to stockinette the rest of it up to the decreases. If I had to go back, (and I could if I wanted to, but I'm lazy), I would do a row of knit after the waffle weave to separate the next few purl rows as a border.
I'm suddenly feeling crafty again. The reason I think is that I've started to think about Christmas, and once again, despite all good intentions I'm miles behind on crafting my gifts. I dragged out last year's Martha Stewart Holiday and my heart went pitter-pat to make some prezzies.
I also owe a few blog friends some special treats, so I should get on those. I think that my recent crafty overload was due to the fact that I was swapping wayyyyyy too much. I needed to take a step back. Sometimes it's nice to just finish some projects for MYSELF, like the socks and the cross-stitch. It's nice to be able to beautify my space with my own handiwork every once in awhile.
OH GOODNESS - I just remembered! I saw my dream book the other day when I popped into Barnes and Noble to check out the new Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts - so beautiful by the way, I'm totally wanting it. There on the featured items rack was The Dancer's Book of Ballet Crafts. WHAT?! I've died and gone to heaven. A book combining my nerd-like love of ballet and crafts. YES!!! Each project is named after/tied into some classical ballet or ballet character, and they have little footnotes telling the story and such. It's geared a little bit to a teenage girl, but it must be mine! Alas - finance are more than low right now...but this one is going on the Christmas wishlist!
Skipping topics yet again - it was SO HOT TODAY. It's almost October! Fall where are you? Autumn is my favorite season, and I'm yearning for sweaters and cozy food and all that. I was literally weaving with dizzyness while I was teaching dance class today. Our studios seriously need air conditioning. My MacBook saved me today, because whenever I saw that the kids were literally melting before my eyes - I'd log on to YouTube and pull up a dance video for inspiration. I could watch dance on YouTube for HOURS. I found something very beautiful today - my Modern I students are studying Isadora Duncan and I had them watch Tamara Rojo of the Royal Ballet perform "Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan" choreographed by Frederick Ashton. See the videos in order here, here, and here. The ending of the last video is so beautiful and worth it if you don't want to watch them all.
Cheers, S
