High Fidelity the Musical

I am alive and well, fear not good people of the internet...This week was "observation week" at work at the dance studio, a week I dread, but it actually went really well. It's so funny, I've been on stage my entire life and yet I get stagefright when parents observe my classes. I'm always afraid that I will say something awkward and that they will pull their child out of my class screaming that I'm a raving idiot or something terrible like that! It went quite the opposite however, which couldn't have pleased me more. For the classes with younger children, I made sure to take the time to explain why each thing was done, as we were doing it. I had numerous parents come up to me afterwards to say that I was so good with the children, and that they really saw that I understood child development. After working at many studios and being criticized for not teaching enough "technical elements" to children whose bodies were not prepared for such work, it was refreshing to meet parents who understood what I was trying to do!

So anyways, work has been super busy this past week, hence no posting. No pictures for this one either, but I will talk about the AWESOME show that I saw last night in Boston!

Matt scored tickets for High Fidelity's pre-Broadway Boston run for my birthday back in August. I love it when birthday celebrations carry on for months! We went last night, and I had very mixed feelings about what to expect. I love the book and I certainly love the movie because among an excellent cast it stars my celebrity boyfriend John Cusack. (Yes, Matt is very aware of my long standing relationship with John Cusack and accepts that the affair will go on, what a great hubby!) The musical proved to be hilarious, the set was so cool, tons of hydraulic powered moving bits and bobs, the original songs were great and of course there is a musical happy ending! Who could ask for more? There was one scene where Rob, the main character, does a duet with a young Bruce Springsteen, who rises out of the ground with an American flag - looking just like the Born in the USA album cover. Hilarious! I hope that it makes it to Broadway though, because this was the final weekend and the audience was spare - not good. If there had been buzz those seats should've been filled! I'm so happy that I got to see it though, with my thoughtful lovely husband at my side. What a perfect way to end the birthday celebrations!
