Gigantic Self Indulgent Wedding Post

the dress

dream dress So this is the dreamy dress in all of its glory it's Vogue Pattern 2902...I believe? My friend Zhana will be modifying it for me by eliminating the drop waist...unflattering on my current stockier than normal figure, so that the tulle will be flowing directly from underneath the ribbon. My entire life my "dream dress has been the one that Audrey Hepburn wears in Funny Face, when she's a book worm turned fashion model. If you haven't seen it - you should. Fred Astaire is phenomenal.

05-29-2006 wedding lace Here is the picture of the lace that my mom and I found to overlay the top. It's a really shoddy picture, but I was too excited to show all of you to wait for good lighting. I decided on off-white, because it will compliment my dark skin much better than bright white. I was hemming and hawing over what to pick for an overlay - because it is the big flashy part of a very simple dress...and I was about to make a (wrong) decision when my mom pulled a nearly empty bolt halfway out of a box in the corner. "Look at this!" she said, and I knew that was it. It was stuck on something at the bottom of the box, so we had to pull about five other bolts out to get at it. There was just enough yardage left for my needs. Perfect. Not to flashy, not to simple. Classy, elegant, and hopefully (barring rain) it will shimmer just like the lake. Sigh - I'm in love. Also, buying eight yards of tulle does wonders for anyone needing to feel like a pretty pretty princess.

05-29-2006 invites are out Very belatedly, my invitations are out! This was the initial big stack of them, we're still hunting down a few addresses. I made them entirely myself. The outside is stamped with a stamp from Asta Arts . They carry a selection of tattoo inspired stamps and they ship fast - with extra goodies, like stamp candy! I thought that was the coolest thing that I've ever seen. You lick it, and then you can stamp to your heart's delight until you feel like eating the candy. So neat! Here are the insides below - we were trying to go with an old punk poster/retro rockabilly feel:

sacred heart button sparrow button More on the retro-y tattoo theme, these are two designs for our favors, little one inch buttons like the kind you would purchase at a show. I especially love that bird!

shoes Next up - shoes. I can't even say how much I detest the idea of white shoes. I HATE THEM. And I don't use that word often. I think that shoes get exposed to the elements much more than other pieces of clothing - so they need to be a little forgiving, to oh, say, a SPEC of dust. I've picked these because I've decided that my shoes and my parasol, (yes, I said parasol), will be my something blue. My bridesmaids will be carrying white parasols. Not the gross froofy Southern Belle kind, but Asian ones that look like big cocktail umbrellas. Check out Asian Ideas for excellent prices on these.

Well that is all for now, except to say that Matt went to Mr. Tux today to pick out a suit...and I think he's going to look as handsome as can be :)
