Completed Swaps

There are many cool things to be said about this ring though. First off, the diamond, which Matt proposed with, belonged to his Aunt Kathy, who passed away from cancer, and the diamond was handed down from Matt's mother, to me.

I chose the setting, which is a 1920's engagement ring in white gold. This ring is completely unique, only one in the world! The history of its making and surviving the times is very interesting: Engagement rings like this were usually not set with diamonds. Instead they were usually set with a colored stone, of the girl's choosing, and worn on the left hand until the wedding day, when it would be switched to the right - flapper bling, if you will. Rings with detail like this were not filligreed, as they are today. Gold would be poured into a die cut mold which was then pressed with up to 10,000 lbs of pressure, thus, even if you were to use the same mold, each ring would be different because the pressure put on the mold would vary every time. Because of the impossibility of replicating these rings, restoring them is a pain, and most are melted down. Much of the detail on the top and bottom of my setting had fallen into itself with age, and a goldsmith had to individually peg every bar to recreate what it would have looked like. And I'm SO happy with the results!

September 11, 2005 -5:43am: So in a fit of insomnia, I've updated my links section, reorganized, removed, added and what not. There are a few more that will be added here and there.

Today I have Neo auditions, and I am not very hopeful that many people will show up. I did not realize, until speaking with a few people today, that so few of my dancers are planning on not returning - mostly due to schedule constraints. I'm so disappointed, because everyone really seemed to believe in the project, so I went through so much planning to make this year even better than the last, and people are bailing. Hopefully there will be some turnout today...we shall see.

September 8, 2005 -9:47am: I've been busy preparing some items for the Crafters United Etsy store...I'm trying to post in this more often!

I'm also working on a new website - to which I will be moving this blog permanently. I hope to sell my crafty wares, and I am trying to find consigners from all over New England. I've got two consigners already From the Hands of the Farmer's Daughter, and this other woman who makes amazing stationary! I'd love to toy with the idea of an online zine too, keeping up with all things diy and crafty in the New England area. If anyone is interested, my contact info is in the contact section, (go figure)!

They have links and information on how to purchase handcrafted items, proceeds of which will go to the relief effort for those effected by Hurricane Katrina. It also tells you how you may donate handcrafted items to sell. All proceeds go to the Red Cross!
