Who is Uncle Duncles?

A few days ago two brand spankin' new reproduction tulip chairs arrived on my doorstep. One is red and the other royal blue. They arrived in boxes with no note, no packing slip and no return address. Where the return address should have been simply read "Uncle Duncles."

Now, knowing my family, I suspected that mischief was afoot. You see, my maiden name is "Duclos" and I thought that "Duclos" was just close enough to the much sillier sounding "Duncles" to be someone in my family pulling a prank on me.

So I called my sister.

"Ren, did you send chairs to my house? Are you Uncle Duncles?"

"No."

So I called my mom.

"Mum, did you or Dad send chairs to my house? Are you Uncle Duncles?"

"No...why don't you call Mike?"

So I called my brother, Mike.

"Mike, did you send me chairs? Are you Uncle Duncles?"

"No."

My brother Thom is not silly enough to send me something with an undignified alias such as "Uncle Duncles" so I didn't call him.

I ran out of siblings and was thoroughly stumped.

Then I remembered that chairs similar to these were on my Wists, and that my in-laws shop for me from my Wists.

So I e-mailed my mother-in-law.

"Did you send me chairs?"

"Yes, Happy belated Birthday!"

BINGO. I went through every Duclos in the book and Uncle Duncles was my mother in law. Turns out Uncle Duncles is the name of the chair distributor.

D'oh!

Thanks for the sweet chairs Mom+Dad C.! I can't wait to put them together in the spring!

Love the chairs, love the surprise, love your mom-in-law had you so fooled!

You lucky girl! I didn't even know these chairs were still being made. They are so comfy - and, apparently, people are again seeing the beauty!!!

Special memories, sitting on my grand mother's lap under the huge, old walnut tree, gently rocking in her faded, light green "porch chair".
