Spring Awakening

When I was on my trip to Baltimore, my friend Rob gave me the cast recording of Spring Awakening so that I could finally see what all of the fuss has been about. I am in love! Duncan Sheik and strings galore - what's not to love about that kind of musical arrangements.

Spring Awakening is a very dark musical, from the sounds of it, based off of the 1891 Frank Wedekind play of the same name. It is music like this that makes me miss musical theatre.

I don't chat about this too much here on my blog, but my college degree is actually Theatre and Dance with Dance and Musical Theatre emphasises. My dance teaching is schedule is so batty that I haven't been able to do theatre for almost two years now. I miss it very much - especially the singing!

So, in lieu of my rusty Broadway pipes, I will leave you with this gem of a video. Duncan Sheik with Lauren Pritchard of Spring Awakening singing "Touch Me." I guarantee your jaw will drop the second this girl opens her mouth.

P.S. Totally random sidenote - Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were sitting at the table across from me at the coffee shop this morning. The NH primary certainly brings out the celebs!
