Rough Day

My grandmother is now in the hospital battling congestive heart failure. My mom thought that she would pass on this morning. When I saw her later in the afternoon today, she was very funny and in good spirits. Her heart is weak, and she is ready to go, so it might be just a matter of time. It was definitely an emotional day today!

Lux in tenebris was my high school's motto, "light in the darkness," and there was a bit of that today. I must share with you a funny story she told me and my mom. She animatedly starting telling us how amazed she was at all of the technology in the hospital, and how efficient everyone was. An attendant came in this morning and asked her if she would like a shower. She said yes. They strapped her in a chair with casters (she has a broken pelvis) which locked down in the shower. She said that "The girl had this apron on with all of these pockets, with shampoo, scrub brushes, lotions, everything! The little chair rotated - and she just kept spinning me around and cleaning everything - and the water pressure was real good! I felt like I was a car, you know like I was in my own car wash!" (By this time, mom and I are in stitches) "So the girl said, let me get your back, and she scrubbed really hard, like I was dirty, but it was kinda nice, you know! Then she said "Do you want a shampoo?" so I said "Sure!" It felt like a car wash!"

Oh man she had us laughing.

It was good to see her like that. No matter what happens in the next few days, I feel good that we all got to share a laugh today.

Just enjoy her spirit as long as you can, and don't forget to tell her how much she means to you. I'm still waiting to tell mine that. :(
